After a couple months of arranging itineraries, perusing guidebooks, making reservations, composing lists and modifying plans, I am ready to pack for the mini-grand tour of Europe that I have planned for Katya and myself. The idea of spending a week or two in Spain evolved into a four week trip that will include the Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Belgium, France and Spain. Peter, very generously, suggested that, since we were flying to Europe, we might as spend a bit more time exploring the continent.
Katya and I depart from San Francisco airport on Wednesday, May 20, for our first destination, Prague. We are trying to pack light, anticipating pulling our suitcases along cobblestone streets and lugging them up stairs in small, quaint hotels predating elevators. While carting around a minimal amount of stuff, we plan to pack in as much sightseeing as we can, visting palaces, castles, cathedrals, museums and historic sites until we practically drop from exhaustion! When we get too tired or overloaded with new experiences, we will relax at cafes and in gardens and parks, resting our eyes and our feet while passively taking in the life around us.
